Guidelines: the CIDOC Information Categories
In 1995 CIDOC issued a set of guidelines for museum object information, The CIDOC Information Categories. This document remains the authoritative source of advice on which information categories should be considered when developing records about objects in museum collections.
The original document was issued in printed form, and also made available on the CIDOC web site as a set of linked pages. In 2007 this source was "rescued", and converted to an XML document conforming to the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) guidelines. From this source we have produced a PDF document which can be downloaded from here. While this new version of the Guidelines is not in exactly the same format as the original printed version, its content should be the same.
We welcome feedback on these Guidelines, together with any case studies about their practical application.
