Supporting museum documentation
Collections without adequate documentation cannot
be considered to be true "museum" collections. It is necessary for all aspects of running a museum and making its riches known to the public.
Setting up and running a documentation system is a major task. It is important to ensure that the system, and the information it contains, are able to respond to the museum's needs.
To get advice on good practice and keep up to date with this developing field, museum documentation specialists can turn to CIDOC, ICOM's International Committee for Documentation. In its Working Groups, through its annual conferences and by its publications and advice on
good practice, CIDOC presents itself as a place for information, communication and discussion regarding all aspects of museum documentation.
