CIDOC Conferences

The International Committee for Documentation of the International Council of Museums (ICOM-CIDOC) organises an annual conference which typically incorporates:

  • Plenary sessions with papers and reports on documentation issues and initiatives
  • Workshops and tutorials on specific issues
  • Working Group sessions during which members of the Groups pursue their projects
  • Annual General Meeting of CIDOC
  • Visits to museums to learn about their documentation practices

This year's conference

In 2008 CIDOC will meet in Athens, Greece at the invitation of ICOM Greece and the Benaki Museum. The conference theme will be "The Digital Curation of Cultural Heritage".

There will be workshops on Sunday 14th September, and the main conference will run from Monday 15th - Thursday 18th September. More details, on the conference web site, www.cidoc2008.gr.

  • 1999, London, U.K. (Development and delivery of information resources diverse audiences), a joint meeting with the MDA
  • 1998, Melbourne, Australia (Documenting and communicating cultural and natural diversity), part of the ICOM Triennial General Conference, with the theme Museums and cultural diversity)
  • 1997, Nuremberg, Germany (Quality and documentation)

  • 1995, Stavanger, Norway, part of the ICOM Triennial General Conference.
