ICCROM is a leading voice in the conservation of cultural heritage around the world. Founded by UNESCO in 1956, ICCROM is the only intergovernmental organization (more than 90 Member States) concerned with conserving all types of heritage whether movable or immovable.
ICCROM stands as a clearinghouse for information, a forum for debate and catalyst for action. It tackles the challenges facing cultural heritage and creates and strengthens the conditions for its effective conservation. Above all, it works towards integrating conservation of cultural heritage into the heart of sustainable human development. It achieves this by collecting, studying and disseminating information; coordinating research and scientific analysis; offering consultancy in field restoration and cooperation in the documentation of monuments and sites; providing professional training opportunities; and promoting awareness of the world’s cultural heritage amongst all sectors of society.
The ICCROM image archive includes a rare collection of some 60,000 photographs
taken by ICCROM staff, providing unique testimony to the conservation and documentation of cultural heritage over the past 40 years. A small but increasing proportion of this collection is available on the ICCROM web site under the heading Databases.
